SnipSnipSnip Privacy Policy

SnipSnipSnip and the free SnipSnipSnip Pro GitHub build are private, local-first macOS apps. Oontz does not collect your captures, recordings, clipboard contents, documents, diagnostics, usage data, or telemetry.

No data collection

SnipSnipSnip does not collect, store on Oontz servers, transmit to Oontz, sell, rent, or share personal information, screenshot content, screen recordings, clipboard contents, annotation text, OCR text, app usage details, analytics, crash reports, telemetry, or behavioral tracking data.

Local processing

Screenshot capture, screen recording, OCR-backed Copy Text, archive search indexing, SnipSnipSnip Pro UI Map processing, annotation rendering, redaction rendering, document handling, and export all happen locally on your Mac. SnipSnipSnip has no cloud backend and no account system.

Local app data

The app may store local files that you create or enable, including editable .sss screenshot packages, .sssvideo recording packages, autosave checkpoints, recent snips, archive entries, recycle-bin entries, Clipboard History items, preview images, OCR search metadata, SnipSnipSnip Pro UI Map metadata for user-initiated Window captures, image overlay assets, settings, and security-scoped bookmarks for folders you choose. This data stays on your Mac unless you copy, export, share, move, back up, or otherwise transmit it yourself.

Private Capture

Private Capture is available for sensitive screenshots. When enabled for a capture session, it skips archive checkpoints, Recent Snips recovery, recycle-bin retention, background OCR indexing, and Clipboard History insertion for that private capture.

Clipboard History

Clipboard History is local-only. It can store copied text, links, images, files, and non-private SnipSnipSnip screenshots on your Mac if the feature is enabled. It skips concealed and transient pasteboard types, excludes Private Capture screenshots, and ignores Apple Passwords plus common password managers by default. macOS does not always expose the source app for every clipboard change, so ignored-app behavior is best-effort.

Editable documents and redaction

SnipSnipSnip uses a non-destructive editor. Redactions and annotations are flattened when you copy, share, or export a rendered PNG, JPEG, PDF, MP4, GIF, or APNG. Editable .sss documents may still contain the original base screenshot and editable annotation state, so treat editable document sharing differently from flattened export sharing.

Export privacy

PNG, JPEG, and PDF screenshot exports are newly encoded by the app and do not carry source EXIF, TIFF, GPS, IPTC, or user metadata forward. Pinned UI Map overlays and visible annotations are exported as visible pixels if you choose to include them in the rendered result.

Permissions

SnipSnipSnip requests macOS permissions only for workflows you use. Screen Recording permission is needed for screenshot and screen recording capture. Microphone and system audio permissions are optional and used only when you enable those recording sources. Accessibility permission is used by SnipSnipSnip Pro for scrolling capture automation and UI Map Window capture. Connected iPhone/iPad capture in Pro uses trusted USB device streams that macOS exposes locally.

Diagnostics

The app can export a local diagnostics report only when you explicitly choose that support action. The report is intended to be sanitized and summary-only: it should not include screenshots, recordings, OCR text, clipboard contents, annotation text, document data, window titles, or raw file paths. You decide whether to send that exported file to support.

No tracking or third-party services

SnipSnipSnip does not include analytics SDKs, crash-reporting services, ad technology, remote logging, product analytics, or behavioral tracking. Visiting GitHub, downloading Pro from GitHub releases, using Apple services, or using any sharing destination you choose is governed by those third-party services' own privacy practices.

Open source

The app is fully open source at github.com/mc-hamster/SnipSnipSnip. SnipSnipSnip is free on the Mac App Store, and the free Pro download is available from GitHub releases.

Data retention

Because Oontz does not collect personal data from SnipSnipSnip, there is no SnipSnipSnip personal data retained on Oontz servers. Local app data remains on your Mac according to your app settings, archive limits, deletion choices, backups, and macOS storage behavior.
